Who runs this site

folddigital.com is run by Fold Digital Ltd, the consultancy of Richard Rowley, registered in England and Wales (company number 09898457), 31 Cattle Market Street, Norwich, England, NR1 3DY. Fold Digital Ltd is responsible for the personal data described here and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.

For anything about your data, email [email protected].

What we collect

This site has no forms, accounts or newsletter sign-up. You can read everything without telling us who you are.

If you email us, we get your email address, your name if you include it and whatever you write. We use it to reply and to talk about work you've asked about, and keep it only as long as that conversation needs. We don't add you to a mailing list or pass your email on.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read. It only loads if you press “Accept analytics” in the cookie banner. If you reject it or ignore the banner, it never loads.

Once accepted, Google Analytics records the pages you visit, the site that sent you here, your device, browser and screen size, your rough location (worked out from your IP address) and when and how long you visit. It gives your browser a random ID so repeat visits can be counted. We don't send it your name or email address. We rely on your consent to use it. Google keeps this data for 2 months, Google's default.

Cookies and browser storage

  • fold-analytics-consent (your browser's local storage, not a cookie): remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so we don't ask on every page. Set when you make a choice. It stays until you clear your browser data.
  • _ga and _ga_* (cookies, set by Google Analytics): tell visits apart and count returning visitors. Only set after you accept analytics. They last up to two years.

There are no advertising or social media cookies on this site.

Changing your choice

You can change your mind at any time: (also in the footer of every page). If you switch from accept to reject, we delete the _ga cookies straight away and reload the page, and Google Analytics stops loading.

Who else handles data

  • Vercel hosts the site. Like any web host, its servers see your IP address and the pages you request, and keep short-lived logs to run and protect the service.
  • Cloudflare sits in front of the site for domain name and security services, so it also sees your IP address and requests.
  • Google provides Google Analytics, only if you accept it.

These are US companies and may process data outside the UK. Those transfers rely on the UK–US data bridge (the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework) where the company is certified under it, and otherwise on the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses. The site's fonts are served from our own domain, not loaded from Google.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Email [email protected] and we'll reply within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
